Fr. Arnel de Castro Aquino, SJ, entered the Society of Jesus thirty-five years ago, in 1990. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2004 and professed final vows in 2021. He is a two-time Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards Best in Homiletics winner for the published anthologies of his heartfelt and inspiring homilies – “Empty Boat… Full Nets” and “But Only Say the Word.” Through his profound and wonder-filled reflections on God’s Word, countless individuals have found deep consolation and renewed faith.

Fr. Arnel earned his doctorate in Systematic Theology at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. Today, he is a cherished professor at the Loyola School of Theology, where he teaches a variety of courses, including Revelation and Faith, Creation and Eschatology, Christology, and Sin and Grace.

Beyond the classroom, Fr. Arnel has significantly contributed to the mission of the Church through his music. He has produced several volumes of Lauds, his instrumental renditions of liturgical and inspirational music on the keyboard. He has likewise composed unforgettable hymns such as “How Lovely Is Your Dwelling Place,” “I Love the Lord,” and “I Am Ever with You.” His songs have become personal anthems and prayers of many. He has shepherded Himig Heswita, leading the group in making music that brings people closer to our Lord and gives greater glory to God. 

Despite his many accomplishments, Fr. Arnel has remained grounded and humble. Closest to his heart is his ministry of guiding and mentoring diocesan seminarians from San Jose Seminary and Jesuit scholastics and brothers from the Arrupe International Residence and Loyola House of Studies. Sharing his many gifts and accompanying people through their life journeys give joy and purpose to Fr. Arnel. True to his Jesuit identity, he never tires in loving and serving the Lord in all things, in omnibus amare et servire Domino.
