Description
Book by Michael P. Delos Reyes.
Delos Reyes a published and multi-awarded author, is an administrator at
Xavier School. He has a degree in theology from the Loyola School of Theology.
Some essays in this compilation were published in the Jesuit quarterly Windhover.
These are now augmented and revised for a fuller text. All the essays show delos
Reyes’ acquaintance with the sources in English, Spanish, Italian and so forth, and
lend credence to his work.
Delos Reyes has focused his work on areas where Jesuit works before their
expulsion in 1768. Lacking is a section on Mindanao where there are also Marian
named Jesuit places like Jasaan, Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga City, whose
patroness is the Immaculate Conception, and El Salvador, whose patroness is Our
Lady of the Snows, the same patroness as Santa Maria Maggiore. There too are the
universities: Ateneo de Manila and Xavier University (Cagayan de Oro), whose
patroness is the Immaculate Conception and Ateneo de Davao, whose patroness
is the Assumption. But this is probably a topic for another book, which could
complement this one as it shows the unbroken tradition of Marian devotion.
Place Me with Your Son spells clearly the Marian legacy of the Society of Jesus,
a fit publication for Ignatius 500.
