Jesuit Communications (JesCom) and the Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM) received two prestigious recognitions at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), honoring media works that “inspire faith, truth, and excellence.” The celebratory news was presented during the CMMA Pre-Announcement of Winners, livestreamed on October 24, 2025, via the CMMA official Facebook page.

“Ang Tungkod Mo” was named Best Inspirational Song – Religious Category, while JesCom Productions’ latest Holy Week special, “Himig Panalangin,” received a Special Citation in the Best TV Special category—two standout honors that affirm JesCom’s continuing mission to proclaim God’s message both through song and on-screen.

Composed by Mimo Perez and arranged by Nigel Perea and Dean Naces, “Ang Tungkod Mo” forms part of the Misa ng Pag-Asa album, a Mass setting centered on hope. Inspired by Psalm 23:4—“Your rod and your staff, they comfort me”—and the episcopal motto of Bishop Moises Magpantay Cuevas, the feted song captures faith’s quiet strength and God’s abiding presence even through uncertainty.

Performed by JMM artist Hangad Music Ministry, “Ang Tungkod Mo” has touched many with its moving message of consolation and trust. On social media, the choir expressed its heartfelt gratitude:

Together with Coach Mimo Perez and Jesuit Music Ministry, we are deeply grateful for this. It is a beautiful reminder that hope is never lost when we let faith and music guide our steps.

This honor belongs to everyone who finds light, courage, and comfort in prayer and song.

JMM Director Lester Mendiola and the rest of the JMM team composed of Bro. Dom Bulan, SJ, Rey Malipot, and Patricia Morato also extended their warm greetings via Facebook:

Congratulations, Hangad, Kuya Mimo Perez, to the arrangers Dean and Nigel, and to everyone involved in this project! Thank you for continuing to inspire hearts to hope, pray, and sing with faith.

Meanwhile, JesCom Productions’ “Himig Panalangin” earned a Special Citation for Best TV Special. Aired on GMA-7 last Black Saturday, the documentary marked JesCom’s 19th Holy Week special and offered an inspiring reflection on how liturgical music becomes a vessel of prayer, healing, and community.

Following 2023’s “Visita Iglesia,” which won JesCom its sixth “Best TV Special” title at the 45th CMMA, “Himig Panalangin” featured the stories of individuals whose lives were transformed through music. Highlighted were Tatay Domeng, a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) who found redemption through his prison choir; a longtime OFW, Hilda Calamba, who found strength in leading her parish music ministry; and campus minister TJ Sunga, who continued his humble service despite battling illness.

“Himig Panalangin” also paid tribute to Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ—the Father of Filipino Liturgical Music—and National Artist Lucio San Pedro, through insightful reflections by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, as well as acclaimed Jesuit composers Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ, and Fr. Arnel Aquino, SJ. Moreover, performances by Bukas Palad Music Ministry, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Banda Uno, and the Pansol Choir all celebrated the living heritage of Filipino sacred music.

Now in its 47th year, the CMMA continues to recognize works that uphold truth, compassion, and Christian values in media. For JesCom and JMM, these awards are a reaffirmation of a shared mission and greater calling—to inspire faith through creativity and excellence, using every song and story to draw hearts closer to God.
