#OneBigFM proudly represents the Philippines in the global broadcast marathon
Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, the campus-community radio station of the Ateneo de Manila University, managed by the Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom), joined hundreds of college radio stations across the globe in celebrating the 15th annual World College Radio Day (WCRD) last Friday, October 3, 2025.

Together with UST Tiger Radio, Radyo Katipunan co-represented the Philippines in the 24-hour global broadcast marathon that featured 27 stations from 22 countries. This year’s theme, “Tune in to the People,” honored college radio’s unique ability to tell authentic stories, amplify diverse voices, and connect communities across borders. The global broadcast kicked off at the host institution, University College Cork in Ireland, before moving through participating stations worldwide, including the Philippines.
Now on its 7th year of broadcasting, Radyo Katipunan continues to embody its mission of “going down from the hill and down to the world”—bringing the spirit of the Ateneo to the broader Church, society, and global Filipino community.
In an interview article with Level Up host and multimedia guru Noel Ferrer, RK Station Manager Justin Pontino shared how this year’s participation aligns with Radyo Katipunan’s ongoing anniversary theme, “S7REAMING BEYOND.”
“We’re celebrating with the theme ‘S7REAMING BEYOND,’ which calls us to go further in our mission of education, engagement, and evangelization,” he explained. “From August 28 until our next anniversary milestone on February 14, we’re launching new programs and releasing exclusive content designed to strengthen our digital presence and deepen our connection with our audience.”
Justin added, “‘STREAMING BEYOND’ reflects our desire to serve beyond Ateneo—reaching not only the campus but the wider Church and Philippine society; beyond our comfort zones—by innovating content and embracing new platforms; and beyond our borders—connecting with Filipino communities and Jesuit networks worldwide.”
Established in 2018 as a joint initiative of Ateneo de Manila University and JesCom, Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM has become a vital platform for education, dialogue, and formation. Over the years, it has aired programs that uplift faith and intellect—among them Keep the Faith: Daily Mass with the Jesuits, launched during the pandemic and still broadcast daily to listeners around the world.
Through partnerships with university offices such as the Office of Mission Integration and the OAVP for Social and Environmental Engagement for Development and Sustainability (SEEDS), Radyo Katipunan has also strengthened collaboration with the Ateneo community, supporting shows like Baka Naman Pwede, Campus Ministers on Air, Sari-Sari: Panitikan at Kulturang Filipino, and the student-led Seniors on Air Radio.
For JesCom Executive Director Fr. Emmanuel “Nono” Alfonso, SJ, the station’s continuing growth mirrors JesCom’s larger mission of using media as a force for evangelization and social engagement.
“Our dream has always been to provide an alternative media space—one that forms conscience, encourages dialogue, and promotes the values of truth, compassion, and faith,” Fr. Nono affirmed in the same article.
As it joined the world in celebrating World College Radio Day 2025, Radyo Katipunan once again reaffirmed its calling as a station truly “with and for others”—broadcasting stories of hope, faith, and nation-building, down from the hill and on to the global stage.
