Songs of faith and hope honored for uplifting hearts and inspiring souls
The Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM) continues to bring honor and inspiration to the Filipino faithful, as three of its songs—performed by Hangad and Bukas Palad Music Ministry—have been named finalists at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).
With the theme “Share with gentleness the hope that is in your hearts” (1 Peter 3:15–16), this year’s CMMA echoes the late Pope Francis’ call for communicators to foster dialogue, compassion, and hope in an often divided world. The awards recognize outstanding works in media that promote truth, human dignity, and Christian values—ideals that sit at the heart of Jesuit Communications’ (JesCom) mission of media evangelization.

Following their recent success at the 38th Awit Awards, this recognition marks another proud moment for JMM under the leadership of Director Les Mendiola, alongside Patricia Morato, Rey Malipot, and JesCom Executive Director Fr. Emmanuel “Nono” Alfonso, SJ.
In a Facebook statement, the JMM team expressed their gratitude:
“We are overjoyed to celebrate three of our songs being named finalists at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards. More than the honor itself, we see this as a reminder to keep offering our music in the service of the Lord and His people. Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue this ministry. All for His greater glory. AMDG!”
Songs that Proclaim Hope and Faith
JMM artists and collaborators earned nominations across two CMMA categories—Best Inspirational Song (Religious) and Best Inspirational Song (Secular)—with each nominated piece reflecting the ministry’s core mission: to bring people closer to God through music.
“Ang Tungkod Mo (Hango sa Salmo 23),” performed by Hangad and composed by Mimo Perez, is inspired by Psalm 23:4 and the episcopal motto of Bishop Moises Magpantay Cuevas—“Virga Tua Consolatio Mea” (“Your rod consoles me”). The song beautifully captures a spirit of faith and trust in God’s abiding presence, even in life’s most uncertain paths.
Also nominated in the same category, “Onward, Pilgrims of Hope” by Bukas Palad Music Ministry, likewise composed by Mimo Perez, was released in November 2024 to herald the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope. With its rousing melody and inspiring message, the song invites the faithful to walk together in courage and faith amid today’s challenges.
Meanwhile, “The Love I Feel”, performed by Hangad featuring Ryza Martinez-Solaña, is a finalist for Best Inspirational Song (Secular). Written by Jan Warren Varquez with lyrics also by Ryza Martinez-Solaña, it was featured in Hangad’s 2024 inspirational love album, Bawat Pintig, which reminds listeners that love—in all its forms—is a reflection of God’s own.
A Continuing Mission of Music and Ministry
Inspired by the pioneering work of Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ, the Jesuit Music Ministry has long stood as a pillar of Filipino liturgical and inspirational music, through timeless songs of prayer and reflection. This latest recognition at the CMMA reaffirms JMM’s vital role in spreading God’s message through both melody and word.
“Congratulations to all the artists who use their talent to inspire and bring people closer to God through music,” the CMMA organizers shared in a social media tribute to the finalists.
Through every note and lyric, JMM continues its mission—to create music that not only inspires but transforms, leading listeners to encounter God in the rhythm of everyday life.
