In a world full of noise, what does it mean to truly listen?

This October, pilgrims are invited to take a sacred pause, highlighted by a two-day spiritual recollection with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, set against the timeless beauty of Italy’s holiest sites.

Slated for October 27 and 28, this recollection is at the heart of Pilgrims of Hope, a 13-day pilgrimage across Rome, Assisi, San Giovanni Rotondo, Loreto, and Cascia, organized by Jesuit Communications (JesCom) and The Pilgrims’ Center.

For many Catholics, Cardinal Tagle’s voice is a familiar tune—compassionate, thoughtful, and firmly rooted in the Gospel. Even after he moved to the Vatican, the cardinal continued to guide millions through his down-to-earth reflections in The Word Exposed, JesCom’s globally acclaimed Sunday  Scripture program. But this October offers something deeper: not just a message broadcast across screens, but an in-person encounter with the cardinal himself.

Affectionately known as the “Asian Francis,” Cardinal Tagle is widely beloved for his simplicity, humor, and heart for the poor. Ordained at 24, he served as bishop of Imus and later as Archbishop of Manila before becoming Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization. His global ministry has taken him from street corners in Cavite to synods in Rome—yet he remains deeply connected to the people he serves.

During the recollection, held on two mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, pilgrims will reflect on the Word of God not from a distance, but through the gentle and incisive guidance of one of the Church’s most respected voices. These sessions offer a rare moment of stillness—a spiritual reset amid the clamor of everyday life.

Led by pilgrim chaplain Fr. Jboy Gonzales, SJ, the journey is designed with intention: extended stays in each destination, time for personal prayer, and Masses in iconic basilicas. It is a pilgrimage without hurry, rich in grace and grounded in meaning.

What sets this experience apart is not only the places visited but the inner journey it invites. To pray and reflect amidst the sacred silence of Assisi, or under the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica is to allow God’s voice to echo more deeply within one’s very soul.

More than just a trip, relish the opportunity to reconnect with your faith, guided by a cardinal whose life and ministry continue to inspire Catholics around the world.

Walk slowly. Listen deeply. Let your heart be awakened.
