Walking Through Holy Doors: An Invitation to Journey in Hope

In a world constantly longing for light amidst today’s uncertainties and challenges, the Church opens once more a sacred path toward healing, renewal, and peace. The Jubilee Year of Hope—declared by the late Pope Francis for 2025—invites us not only to reflect on the meaning of Christian hope but to live it, breathe it, and carry it into the world.

This October, Jesuit Communications (JesCom) invites you to experience the sacred tradition of the pilgrimage. With Fr. Jboy Gonzales, SJ, serving as pilgrimage chaplain, the highlight of this journey is a two-morning recollection with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle in Rome. Participants of The Word Exposed pilgrimage will also walk through the Holy Doors of Rome and visit some of Italy’s most cherished shrines— at a pace that allows the soul to breathe. Far from hurried sightseeing, this journey offers deep reflection, spiritual companionship, and the quiet power of presence.

Marked by the ancient tradition of opening the Holy Doors in Rome, a Jubilee Year is indeed a rare and grace-filled season. It calls the faithful to leave behind routine, set aside distractions, and embark on a spiritual pilgrimage. This is not merely a journey of miles, but one of the heart—a return to God, a time for reconciliation, and a bold step forward in trust. “Spes non confundit—Hope does not disappoint,” writes Pope Francis in his Apostolic Letter. These words are not just a theme; they are a promise.

Therefore, as “Pilgrims of Hope,” we are called to rediscover the soul of our faith—through prayer, through penance, and through communion with one another.
Pope Francis reminds us that hope is not a passive waiting but an active witness. It is choosing to walk toward grace even when the way is uncertain. “We must fan the flame of hope,” he urges, “and help everyone to gain new strength… by looking to the future with an open spirit.”

The pilgrimage represents one of the most ancient and transformative expressions of this very call —a journey made not for adventure or escape, but for a deeper encounter with God. For centuries, Christians have walked to holy places, seeking clarity, healing, and strength. Thus, a pilgrimage makes an opportune space for silence, invites us to confront what weighs on our hearts, and offers sacred moments that change us.

Whether you are discerning a new chapter in your life, healing from loss, or simply yearning for God in a noisy world, this pilgrimage is a space of welcome-
a place to rest, remember, and renew.

The Jubilee Year of Hope is not just about history. It’s about you. And now is the time.
