As it celebrates six years of dedicated service and values-driven broadcasting, Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, the community FM radio station of the Ateneo de Manila University and its surrounding areas, is set to reach a new milestone with the inauguration of its brand-new studio on February 14, 2025, at 9 AM.
Located on the ground floor of the Sonolux Building along Seminary Drive, the newly designed studio features upgraded equipment and an open, glass-enclosed layout, allowing students, faculty, staff, and visitors to witness live broadcasts firsthand. This upgrade strengthens Radyo Katipunan’s commitment to making its programming more visible, accessible, and engaging for the entire Ateneo community.
The launch will also feature the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ateneo de Manila’s Mission Integration (MI) cluster. Moving forward, Radyo Katipunan will be joining the MI cluster which forms a “community of praxis that promotes the Ignatian holistic formation of University stakeholders toward transformative engagement,” under the leadership of Dr. Benjamin “Benjie” Gerardo T. Tolosa Jr. (AB Economics ’83), Vice President for Mission Integration.
A Stronger Voice for the Community
Since its soft launch on February 14, 2018, Radyo Katipunan has grown into a trusted platform for information, instruction, insight, inspiration, and identity—serving as the #OneBigFM across the Ateneo campus and beyond. Through FM radio, online streaming, and social media, the station has continuously championed content that promotes public service, nation-building, and faith formation.
“We are very much honored to renew our commitment to the Ateneo de Manila community and continue being closer and available to those we serve,” affirmed longtime Radyo Katipunan station coordinator Justin Pontino. “We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the Ateneo while remaining true to our core values.”
Expanding Horizons
From its early days as a campus-based community station, Radyo Katipunan has greatly evolved into a dynamic multi-platform broadcaster, reaching thousands of listeners both locally and abroad. It has provided a home for meaningful discourse on topics ranging from social justice and human rights to education and spirituality, while also serving as a reliable source of information during crises.
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Radyo Katipunan became a beacon of hope, producing digital programs such as “Keep the Faith: Daily Mass with the Jesuits”, which continues to provide spiritual guidance to a thriving virtual parish. The station has also facilitated discussions on human rights, economic issues, and national concerns, amplifying voices that shape a more informed and engaged citizenry.
Beyond broadcasting, Radyo Katipunan has actively participated in outreach programs, from supporting community pantries to organizing Pamaskong Handog, an initiative that has helped hundreds of families celebrate Christmas with dignity, year after year.
Hence, the new studio is a reflection of Radyo Katipunan’s continued growth and impact—a space that embodies its mission of public service and truthful, transformative communication.
