As Pope Francis battles serious health complications, Jesuit Communications (JesCom) stands in solidarity with the greater Jesuit community, its mission partners, and the Catholic faithful worldwide in praying for the Holy Father’s recovery.

The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis, 88, remains in critical condition due to a complex lung infection and early signs of kidney failure. Despite his frailty, the Supreme Pontiff has remained alert, attending Mass and continuing his pastoral duties, as much as his condition allows.

“The Holy Father’s condition remains critical, but since last evening, he has not experienced any further respiratory crises,” the Holy See Press Office stated on February 23. “The complexity of the clinical picture, along with the time required for the pharmacological treatment to show results, means that the prognosis is still guarded.”

However, in its February 24 bulletin, the Holy See Press Office provided an encouraging update on Pope Francis’ health, stating that “the Holy Father’s clinical condition, despite its severity, has shown a slight improvement.”

In the evening, Pope Francis even extended his sympathies and prayers for the beleaguered region of Palestine, “calling the parish priest of Gaza, to express his paternal closeness,” according to the Holy See Press Office report.

As he faces this critical health battle, JesCom urges the faithful to unite in prayer for Pope Francis’ strength and healing.

We invite everyone to lift up the Holy Father in prayer, entrusting him to the loving care of our Blessed Mother, Mary, Help of Christians, and the intercession of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Let us continue to offer our petitions for the Holy Father, that he may find comfort and recovery in the grace of God.
