The Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM) celebrated a landmark achievement at the 37th Awit Awards, held at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan City, last December 4th, 2024. JMM secured wins in two prestigious categories: Best Original Soundtrack for Sa Duyan ng Bayan and Best Recording by a Child or for Children for Magmasid, Bayang Hinirang.
Honoring Nation and Faith with Sa Duyan ng Bayan
Winning Best Original Soundtrack, Sa Duyan ng Bayan emerged as a stirring anthem of unity and love for country and God. Composed by Krina Cayabyab and performed by iconic OPM artists Noel Cabangon, Ebe Dancel, and Gloc-9, the song was arranged and produced by Paulo Zarate, with additional contributions from backup vocalists Patricia Morato, Hannah Jane Coscos, and Justin Pontino. Mixed and mastered by Martin Andrew Guevara, Sa Duyan ng Bayan also stands as a testament to the creative passion and collaborative spirit present in JMM.
Originally launched on August 25, 2023, ahead of National Heroes Day, Sa Duyan ng Bayan serves as the theme song for JesCom’s acclaimed second major motion picture GomBurZa. The film was a critical and commercial success, becoming the most awarded film of the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival. This stirring anthem captures the enduring Filipino spirit, echoing GomBurZa’s themes of hope, courage, and resilience.
Reflecting on the win, JMM Director Lester Mendiola gratefully expressed on social media, “We won in two categories for the Awit Awards tonight! Salamat sa Diyos! Mabuhay ang OPM!”
