The Ateneo Boys Choir, a treasured stalwart of the Ateneo de Manila Grade School community, is set to launch their highly anticipated mini-album Sa Atin Siya’y Mamamalagi on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, 6pm at the Singson Hall, Ateneo de Manila Grade School. This pre-Christmas event promises to be an evening of music and celebration, as the youthful choristers also pay homage to their late mentor, Ms. Daisy N. Marasigan, fondly known as “Coach Daisy.”

A Tribute to a Legacy

The mini-album Sa Atin Siya’y Mamamalagi stands as a heartfelt tribute to Ms. Marasigan, who devoted 36 years to shaping the musical and spiritual lives of countless young Ateneans. A gifted music teacher and mentor, Ms. Marasigan left an indelible mark as Faculty Development Coordinator and member of the Executive Council of the Association of Faculty and Staff of the Ateneo Grade School. Her passion for music and commitment to excellence continue to inspire generations.

The album’s title track, one of Ms. Marasigan’s own compositions, embodies her vision of music as a bridge between faith, culture, and community—a legacy carried forward by the Ateneo Boys Choir to this day.

From Ignatian Heritage to Heartfelt Homage

The album launch follows the success of the choir’s single, Fundador (Marcha de San Ignacio de Loyola), released last July during Ignatian Month. Sung in Spanish and inspired by a traditional folk tune from St. Ignatius’ hometown of Loyola, Spain, the hymn celebrates the militant spirit of the Society of Jesus and St. Ignatius’ enduring influence.

This single set the stage for the choir’s series of monthly releases under the Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM), culminating in the December launch of Sa Atin Siya’y Mamamalagi. The album also features other inspiring tracks such as “Nasa Palad Mo” (composed by Fr. Manoling V. Francisco, SJ), “Jesus, Best Friend” and “Aba Ginoong Maria” (both composed by Dom Bulan, SJ), all showcasing the choir’s talent and devotion, reaffirming their place as one of the oldest and most respected student organizations in the Ateneo de Manila Grade School.

Continuing a Tradition of Excellence

Comprising students from Grades 4 to 6, the Ateneo Boys Choir has long been a beacon of homegrown Atenean musical excellence. They have represented the Ateneo community in numerous concerts and choral competitions, including the international “Sing n Joy” event back in 2013. Through their music, these young choristers embody the Ignatian values of Magis and Cura Personalis, striving for greater excellence while nurturing each other’s growth.

An Invitation to Celebrate

JesCom and the Jesuit Music Ministry gladly invite the Ateneo community and music enthusiasts to join this meaningful celebration of music, faith, and mentorship. The launch of Sa Atin Siyay Mamamalagi also marks a testament to the transformative power of music in bringing people together and keeping cherished memories alive.
