Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) continued its 2024 Campus Tour with a visit to Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) from September 26 to 28. Following the success of its “EMPOWER” fair, JesCom’s mission of evangelization reached new heights in Mindanao, offering an engaging and inspiring three-day event for Davaoeño students.
Led by JesCom’s Digital Marketing Manager, Jojo Armenta, the team was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of AdDU students. Armenta kicked off the event by introducing JesCom’s mission, identity, and ministry, emphasizing the role of media in spreading the Good News and fostering community. Her message, along with the active presence of Kim Ferrer (Digital Marketing), Rey Malipot (Jesuit Music Ministry), and Roma Escaner (JesCom Sales) set the tone for a three-day event filled with both fun and meaningful interactions.
At the JesCom booth, students took part in interactive games and snapped fun photos at the photobooth, which quickly became a crowd favorite. Students were also treated to a fashion show featuring the JesCom Tag t-shirt line, with each shirt carrying inspirational quotes and lyrics from classic Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM) compositions, that resonated deeply with the youthful audience.
Day 2 brought even more excitement with special appearances by notable Jesuit personalities. Kape’t Pandasal host, Fr. Jboy Gonzales, SJ, and renowned JMM composer, Fr. Charlie Cenzon, SJ, graced the event, much to the delight of the JesCom team. Ateneo de Davao University President, Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ, was also present, lending his full support to JesCom’s mission.
A major highlight was the ‘JOSH Live’ program, co-hosted by Rey Malipot and Roma Escaner. The dynamic duo engaged the audience with entertaining discussions on JesCom’s work, the significance of the Campus Tour, and the upcoming grand tribute concert Luwalhati sa Diyos: The Legacy of Fr. Honti set for October 12th. Students also eagerly participated in the Open Mic session, singing along to well-loved JMM songs.
The JesCom team also relished the opportunity to celebrate the recognition of Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ, and the Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc., as the recipient of the Drs. Jess and Trining de la Paz Award, during the Special Convocation For The University Traditional Awards held at the Finster Auditorium.
The three-day event culminated with JesCom’s heartfelt appreciation for the entire Ateneo de Davao ‘Blue Knight’ community, under Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ’s leadership as well as the kind assistance of Suzzane Marie A. Doromal (Director, Community Center Operation) and Benz Edd Garay (Program Officer for Student Activities).
Once more, the latest edition of the Campus Tour succeeded in bridging the gap between JesCom and the younger generation, empowering students to embrace digital platforms as tools for evangelization and community-building. The fruitful trip to Ateneo de Davao not only reinforced JesCom’s ongoing ministry but also introduced new audiences to JesCom Youth (JY), a new initiative aimed at fostering a vibrant community of young digital evangelists.
As JesCom continues its mission across Jesuit campuses, the message remains clear—the youth play a crucial role in spreading the Good News, and through truthful media and a faith-driven community, they are empowered to make a lasting impact.
