The “biggest historical film of the new decade” continues to impress.

“GomBurZa”, the compelling historical film produced by JesCom Films and MQuest Ventures of MediaQuest, in cooperation with CMB Film Services, recently added to its ever-growing list of accolades as it received a staggering 12 nominations for the 72nd FAMAS Awards.

In a post shared last May 6th on the official Facebook page of the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), “GomBurZa” was nominated for 12 out of 18 total categories put forth by the oldest and most distinguished award-giving body for Filipino films.

Established in 1952, the FAMAS Awards are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema over a calendar year. The FAMAS Awards forms one of the most esteemed film award bodies in the country, alongside the Luna Awards (Film Academy of the Philippines), the Gawad Urian Awards of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics), and the Star Awards for Movies and Television by the Philippine Movie Press Club.

Atop the prestigious nominations is the coveted ‘Best Picture’ nod, followed by ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Actor’ for Jose Lorenzo “Pepe” Diokno and Cedrick Juan, respectively. “GomBurZa” is also nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ (Enchong Dee), ‘Best Screenplay’ (Rody Vera and Pepe Diokno), and ‘Best Cinematography’ (Carlo Mendoza).

Continuing “GomBurZa’s” roll of nominations are ‘Best Editing’ (Benjamin Tolentino), ‘Best Production Design’ (Ericson Navarro), and ‘Best Musical Score’ (Teresa Barrozo). Completing the count are additional nominations for ‘Best Sound’ (Albert Michael Idioma, Emilio Bien Sparks, Janina Minglanilla), ‘Best Visual Effects’ (Good Take Media Productions), and ‘Best Original Song’ (Sa Duyan ng Bayan).

“GomBurZa” is no stranger to receiving distinguished recognition for its powerful portrayal of the heroic tale of martyred priests, Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, as it previously garnered the most awards among the 10 competing entries of the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival.

Apart from clinching the honor of “Second Best Picture,” along with the Best Director plum for Jose Lorenzo “Pepe” Diokno and Best Actor nod for Cedrick Juan, “GomBurZa” went on to dominate across categories, securing Best Cinematography (Carlo Mendoza), Best Production Design (Ericson Navarro), Best Sound Design (Albert Michael Idioma, Janina Minglanilla, and Emilio Sparks), as well as the prestigious Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award.

Last April 9th, on the National Day of Valor, “GomBurZa” made its worldwide debut on streaming platform giant Netflix, where more Filipinos across the globe can be inspired by its timeless messages of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice.

As it awaits for the final results to be revealed during the FAMAS Awards Night slated for May 26, 2024, 7pm at the Fiesta Pavilion of the Manila Hotel, JesCom Films, led by Executive Director Fr. Emmanuel Alfonso SJ, Creative Director, Ms. Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin and Production Manager, Ms. Ernestine Tamana, salutes and congratulates the cast, crew and all who contributed to the overwhelming and continuing success of “GomBurZa.”
