In the spirit of renewal, communion, and mission, Jesuit Communications (JesCom) made its mark at the recently concluded 10th Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE X), held from January 19 to 21 at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion.

At the heart of JesCom’s engagement was Executive Director, Fr. Nono Alfonso SJ, who served as part of the PCNE’s executive board and contributed to the planning of the program and its objectives. Additionally, JesCom Production Manager, Ms.Ernestine Tamana brought her expertise to the PCNE’s production team, playing a key role in the execution of the three-day event’s widely-successful culminating concert.

The theme for PCNE X, “Salya: Let us cross to the other side,” drawn from Mark 4:35, set the tone for a deep exploration of the force of synodality embedded in Filipino Catholic traditions. The conference aimed to lead participants to a profound renewal of heart and faith, embracing a conversion that is personal, communal, and missionary.

In the opening day’s Eucharistic Celebration, Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, D.D., focused on the grace of synodality within the context of devotion to the Poong Hesus Nazareno. Cardinal Advincula highlighted the unique practices that make the devotion to the Nazareno a powerful force of unity, emphasizing the togetherness that drives the Traslacion forward.

The second day featured various activities, including audiam sessions around the university and a prayer ritual. Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, held a press conference to further delve into the topic of synodality. In his homily during the Eucharistic Celebration, Cardinal Grech emphasized the importance of going forth and proclaiming the Gospel for true evangelization to take place.

The culminating day of the 10th PCNE, which coincided with the feast of the child Jesus, was marked by a poignant homily from Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle—mphasizing the humility of God’s journey with us, urging the faithful to remain humble on the synodal path.

The star of JesCom’s internationally renowned Sunday scripture reflection program, “The Word Exposed,” initiated the PCNE back in 2013 as then-Manila Archbishop, in response to Pope Francis’ call for New Evangelization.

The highlight of the final day was the celebration concert preceding the Eucharistic celebration. Rey Malipot, from the Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM), showcased his talent in a duet of “Gabing Kulimlim” with Tawag ng Tanghalan Grand Finalist Eumee Capile. Stars of JesCom’s multi-awarded 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Second Best Picture winner, “GomBurZa” — Elora Espano, Dylan Ray Talon, and Bon Lentejas — also graced the concert.

Throughout the three-day event, JesCom also hosted a booth offering best-selling books, exclusive merchandise such as shirts and tote bags, and other collectible items to participants.

Guided by the spirit of collaboration and mission, JesCom extends its congratulations on the success of the 10th PCNE. The media arm of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus takes pride in its contribution and remains privileged to faithfully serve the Philippine Church and its projects, amplifying its voice through impactful initiatives.
