In a triumphant evening at the Catholic Social Media Awards 2023, the Jesuit Music Ministry (JMM) secured both a prestigious win and significant nominations. Representing the ministry at the awarding ceremony held last December 3 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, were Fr. Ro Atilano, SJ, and Fr. Jboy Gonzales, SJ, who accepted the accolades on behalf of the talented team.
“Panata sa Puso” Clinches Catholic Song of the Year
The highlight of the night was the resounding victory of “Panata sa Puso” as the “Catholic Song of the Year.” This moving piece, released on digital streaming platforms on March 11, 2022, during the Ignatian Year, captures the essence of unfailing and unconditional love dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The song, performed by JMM’s Rey Malipot featuring Maan Villanueva, is a collaborative creation with lyrics by Victor Ramos Baltazar SJ and music by Fr. Manoling V. Francisco SJ. The arrangement, mixing, and mastering were skillfully done by Toto Sorioso, coupled with a soulful flute performance by Jay Gomez.
“Walk With Us Dear Thérèse” Earns Finalist Spot
Adding to JMM’s array of achievements was the inclusion of “Walk With Us Dear Thérèse” as a finalist for “Catholic Song of the Year.” This song, launched on January 6, 2023, as the official theme for the 5th Visit of the Relics of St. Therese to the Philippines, was the winning entry to the “Lakbay Tayo, St. Thérèse. Ka-alagad, Kaibigan, Ka-misyon” National Theme Songwriting Competition. Performed by the Bukas Palad Music Ministry, with arrangements by Gino Cruz and choral arrangements by Palan Reyes, the music and lyrics are the combined efforts of Fr. France Baasis and Leonard Santos Laurio.
JMM’s Digital Presence Acknowledged
Beyond the musical realm, JMM’s digital presence shone brightly. The ministry’s TikTok page (@jesuitmusicministry), with over 71,000 followers and 1.5 million likes, secured a spot among the finalists for “Best TikTok.” The page offers engaging glimpses into various performances, concerts, announcements, and greetings through captivating short-form videos.
Simultaneously, JMM’s YouTube channel (@JesComMusic) achieved recognition as one of the five finalists for “Best YouTube.” With over 67,000 subscribers, the channel features uplifting albums, music for prayer, meditation, and reflection, as well as lyric videos and clips from concerts.
