Continuing its long tradition of producing exceptional Lenten TV specials, Jesuit Communications’ (JesCom) “Visita Iglesia” has been named a finalist at the 45th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).
Aired last Holy Wednesday, April 5 on CNN Philippines, JesCom’s 2023 Holy Week special was included in the prestigious list of seven finalists for “Best TV Special” under the CMMA’s “Television” category. The roster of finalists, across multiple platforms ranging from radio, print and television production, digital media campaigns, and others were unveiled last Friday, October 13 on the CMMA’s official Facebook page.
“Visita Iglesia” takes viewers on a virtual pilgrimage to seven Philippine churches that are steeped in historical significance, cultural heritage, and architectural value. At each destination, the documentary looks at the church’s history, unique structural features, and collection of liturgical artifacts, as well as highlights the different stories of divine intervention that have been passed down to generations of parishioners and devotees.
Featuring interviews from distinguished resource speakers headlined by Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, “Visita Iglesia” seeks to provide answers behind the enduring popularity of the Maundy Thursday tradition and the deeper values that can be learned from this beloved practice.
A staple of its annual Lenten programming, “Visita Iglesia” is JesCom’s 18th Holy Week TV special. The media arm of the Society of Jesus’ Philippine Province has won the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) ‘Best TV Special’ award a total of five times. These include “Habilin: Ang Pitong Huling Wika ni Hesus” (2008), “Kwento ng mga Peregrino” (2009), “Ang Aming Mga Sala” (2010), “Fiesta: Ang Makulay na Pananampalatayang Pilipino” (2021), and 2022’s “Gabay sa Pagiging Santo”.
As it eagerly awaits the official results of the CMMA finalist nomination, JesCom proudly congratulates its production team headed by Ms. Ernestine Tamana and the special’s director, JesCom creative director Ms. Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin, as well as writer Angela Ureta, and other collaborators who continue to share their time, talent, and dedication to the success of “Visita Iglesia” — all for the greater glory of God.
