Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, the official campus radio station of the Ateneo de Manila University, is gearing up for an exciting participation in the global celebration of World College Radio Day on Friday, October 6, 2023.

This year holds special significance for the “Voice of the Blue Eagle” as it marks not only the fifth year of the station’s participation in this global event but also its landmark fifth anniversary. Under the theme “Overdrive,” Radyo Katipunan has been celebrating its remarkable journey since February 13, 2023, reflecting on its accomplishments over the past five years while looking forward to an exciting future.

One of the most anticipated developments this year is the return of hosts and guests to the newly revamped Radyo Katipunan studio. After three years of remote broadcasting due to pandemic restrictions, the station has started welcoming back students, faculty, staff, and visitors for engaging and insightful conversations, live and on-air.

Radyo Katipunan also celebrated its official “birthday” last August 28, 2023, commemorating the day it was officially launched as Ateneo de Manila University’s community radio station. The station has planned a series of exciting events, activities, and updates throughout the year to celebrate this milestone.

Previously, the station received the 2020 Spirit of College Radio Award for its outstanding efforts, outshining over 600 participants from around the world. In 2023, it aims to continue this legacy and make an even bigger impact.

Hosting Radyo Katipunan’s segment during this year’s 24-hour global marathon broadcast will be the dynamic duo of Maxine Cruz, host of RK’s pop culture show “New Wave,” and Teo Ricaforte, RK’s digital media coordinator and host of “Katipunan Roundup.” The live streaming can be accessed via Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM’s social media pages and youtube.com/radyokatipunanfm, as well as via online audio stream at zeno.fm/rk879fm.

This year’s World College Radio Day theme is “Where All Voices Are Welcome.” It emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and diversity in college radio, providing a platform where every voice is respected and encouraged to join the conversation. College radio stations from over 50 countries will unite to bring awareness to the value they bring to the broadcasting medium.

The mission of World College Radio Day is to unite the combined listenership of hundreds of thousands of college radio enthusiasts worldwide and celebrate the significant contribution of college radio. The College Radio Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Hewitt, New Jersey, organizes this annual event.

As Radyo Katipunan takes part in this worldwide celebration, it continues to be a vital platform for truthful communication and values-driven programming, embodying the Jesuit spirit of promoting dialogue, diversity, and inclusivity.
