Jesuit Communications (JesCom) Productions’ music video for “Live Christ, Share Christ”, the official Jubilee song celebrating the fifth Centenary of Christianity in the country, bagged top honors at the 44th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

“Live Christ, Share Christ” claimed the title of ‘Best Music Video’ over fellow finalists ‘Love and Light’ by Adrian Crisanto & Joselle Feliciano, ‘Adoration (I Love You)’ by Vanya Castor, and ‘It’s Okay not to be Okay’ by Angela Ken Rojas.

The win marks JesCom’s fourth ‘Best Music Video’ nod at the CMMAs, following 2001’s “Pananagutan”, 2003’s “Kayod Kabayo, Kayod Barya”, and 2021’s “Come be Our Light”. The media arm of the Society of Jesus’ Philippine Province also earned a Special Citation for 2007’s “Ehemplo” music video. Music videos have long been a hallmark of JesCom productions since the 1990’s, as these have been used as pre-programming by many major networks, commonly paired up with their station ID and the airing of the National Anthem to start the day.

Present to receive the trophy at the CMMA Awarding Ceremony held last Wednesday evening, November 23, at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, were JesCom Creative Director Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin, Production Manager Ernestine Tamana, Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM Station Coordinator Justin Pontino, and Editha Sablan from Marketing.

Commissioned by the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications (ECSC) to create a fitting hymn celebrating a banner year for Filipino Christianity, JesCom’s landmark project reflects the long-standing partnership between the media arm of the Society of Jesus’ Philippine Province and the CBCP.

“We are deeply honored that the CBCP had entrusted us with this significant project,” acknowledged JesCom Creative Director Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin in a previous interview following “Live Christ, Share Christ’s” debut on the social media pages of the different dioceses and Catholic organizations in the country last April 4th, Easter Sunday.

“JesCom has been producing multimedia content for evangelization for the past 26 years, and this is the perfect way to celebrate not just the Jubilee, but our continued collaboration and partnership with the local Church as well,” she added.

Composed by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab, with lyrics written by Archbishop Socrates Villegas, “Live Christ, Share Christ” features a stellar cast of OPM talents that includes Angeline Quinto, Erik Santos, Liezel Garcia, Janine Berdin, Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, Jolina Magdangal, Matt Lozano and Arman Ferrer. The official music video premiered on the JesCom TV YouTube channel last September 8, 2021- the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“When we first approached the artists, they were more than willing to be part of the project. We are fortunate to have a great relationship with them, as most of them have been invited as guests to our concerts,” recounted Mangilog-Saltarin of their enthusiastic contribution to the song’s success.

Tasked with re-arranging the theme was veteran music director Marvin Querido, whose pop-inspired version of “Live Christ, Share Christ” brought to life the color and festivity of Filipino Christianity.

“It was a challenge to record during this pandemic, but we are very happy with how it turned out. Our musical arranger, Marvin Querido, did a wonderful job with recording and mixing,” commended Mangilog-Saltarin.

“It is often said that Filipinos are singers and performers by heart. And in any kind of celebration, there is always singing and dancing. It is our hope that this ‘pop’ version will appeal to Christians throughout the Philippines,” she affirmed.
