It was an evening to remember for the Young Voices of the Philippines (YVP), as the scholar choir of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines officially launched its ‘Mass of Life: A Mass Setting for Children’ album at The Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao, last Saturday, November 19.
Following the celebration of the Children’s Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr Dennis Soriano along with JesCom Associate Director Rev. Fr. Ro Atilano SJ delivering the homily, Jesuit Music Ministry’s (JMM) newest and youngest artist impressed churchgoers in attendance with a mini-concert showcasing the best of its sacred and harmonious music.
Under the guidance of its acclaimed conductor, Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde Roldan, Young Voices of the Philippines opened with hymns Jesu Rex Admirabilis and Ave Maria — the choir’s humble way of embracing the presence of the Lord and venerating the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The youthful singing community then performed its lineup of beloved Philippine folk songs, drawing cheers for their renditions of Si Pilimon, Dandansoy, and the Ilocos Region’s signature Pamulinawen.
To conclude their repertoire, Young Voices of the Philippines gave their audiences a warm send off, treating them to a trio of Christmas classics, Kampana ng Simbahan, Tidings of Joy, and Pasko na Naman.
Awitan ang Panginoon, Anima Christi, Prayer for Spiritual Communion, and I Will Sing Forever, as well as several other musical arrangements of YVP’s internationally-published resident composer, Prof. Jude B. Roldan, were also featured in the Children’s Mass, held in honor of the Feast of Christ the King.
