Gather around for an evening of Yuletide cheer, as our dear Ateneo de Manila Jesuit Fathers perform in their upcoming concert, “My Favorite Christmas Carol”.
Streaming live on Sunday, December 19 at 8 pm, via the social media pages of JesCom, JMM, and Radyo Katipunan 87.9 FM, the much-anticipated Christmas musicale serves as a welcome opportunity for members of the Jesuit Residence, to reunite in the spirit of brotherhood and celebrate the season of giving.
“It is always something special whenever the Jesuits gather together in an informal, yet joyful way, such as this Christmas concert,” affirms Fr. Ro Atilano SJ, one of the event’s featured carolers.
“It is a consolation for us to sing together, both the young ones and the once young, as we share fond memories of our childhood Christmas experiences.”
Reminiscing his younger days of going house to house around the neighborhood, bringing along his “DIY tambourine from old bottle tin caps”, Fr. Ro believes that rekindling this same childlike excitement and joy for caroling, offers many inspiring lessons in time for Christmas.
“Christmas is always magical and awesome for children. There is always one song or two that is close to our hearts igniting beautiful memories and hope in our hearts,” explains the Ateneo de Manila Junior High School chaplain.
“Remembering our Christmas carols reminds us not to lose our childlikeness and our sense of wonder, awe, and hopefulness.”
Indeed, it is the virtue of hope that remains at the heart of the Jesuits’ treasured Yuletide songs- a message Fr. Ro and his brothers at the Residence would like their audiences to take to heart, as we continue to face challenging times.
“No matter how challenging life may be for us, we should never give up, we should never lose hope. Let us remember our favorite childhood Christmas carols that once ignited hope and wonder in us,” encourages the JesCom Publications’ ‘Miracle of the Ordinary’ book author.
“Please watch our online Christmas concert at the Jesuit Residence. May these songs ignite once more hope in us, during this time of the pandemic, and bring us closer to the source of Hope, Jesus, our God-Emmanuel,” he invites.
