Bukas Palad Music Ministry commemorates the milestone Ignatian Year, with the release of its new song, “Bagong Buhay”, this July 30 on digital platforms Spotify and Apple Music.
Inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola’s enduring story of conversion, “Bagong Buhay” reflects the theme of the global Jesuit community’s yearlong celebration of the fateful battle in Pamplona, 500 years ago.
“Every song we produce is special to us, but being able to contribute an Ignatian-themed song during the Ignatian Year- and also during our ministry’s 35th anniversary—is both humbling and edifying,” described Bukas Palad member Ramon Gutierrez of the great significance behind his choir’s latest work.
Initially called the Ateneo Student Catholic Action-Ateneo Christian Life Community (ATSCA-ACLC) choir, Bukas Palad has since proudly carried the core values and teachings of St. Ignatius in its music, as well as in the daily lives of its members.
“Bukas Palad’s ministry is deeply rooted in Ignatian Spirituality. Our music and our mission-vision reflect Ignatian Spirituality, and is a common thread among all our members,” affirmed Gutierrez.
Just as May 20, 1521, forever changed the life and mission of St. Ignatius, Salazar and his fellow Bukas Palad members hope that listeners of “Bagong Buhay” find God speaking to their hearts, in life’s most moving experiences.
“Ignatian Spirituality teaches that we can find God in everything. In this light, there are countless opportunities for us to be converted and to find God,” he encouraged.
“We hope the song can inspire us to reflect on both the big and small, ‘cannonball moments’, where we are called to dedicate our lives to God’s deepest desires for us.”
With much to celebrate and hope for, in a landmark year honoring St. Ignatius through both song and prayer, Gutierrez offered his heartfelt appreciation, on behalf of his beloved musical group.
“We thank all who have supported, listened, sang, and prayed with us in the last 35 years. And we hope this song continues to help give voice to our listeners’ most fervent prayers, in the same way, that it has for Bukas Palad.”
