Garnering “Best Instrumental Performance” at the 33rd Awit Awards“Paghahandog ng Sarili” was first performed during the momentous ‘Ginintuan’ concert- cementing Musica Chiesa’s place as a distinguished contributor to the proud tradition of Jesuit music.

“What probably made this arrangement different is that we reimagined Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros’ “Paghahandog ng Sarili” to be played by a chamber orchestra. The lush strings probably added a sort of lift and grandeur to an already beautiful piece of music,” explains longtime member Silke Hipolito.

“Musica Chiesa is our ministry. We are thankful for the opportunity to make music, to serve, and to share our work with people here in the Philippines, and hopefully to the rest of the world. We are grateful and blessed beyond measure. It motivates us even more to continue doing the ministry we do,” she continues.

Meanwhile, “Maging Katulad Mo” bested five other nominees for the honor of ‘Best Inspirational Song’ at the 42nd Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

Maging Katulad Mo was the fruit of my prayer during my 30-day retreat in 2012. As such, I instructed Hangad Music Ministry that I wanted it sung very prayerfully and they did so very well,” recounts composer and arranger Fr. Charlie Cenzon SJ, of how the vocal ensemble entrusted to give voice to his work- did so- in impressive fashion.

“The lyrics were inspired by the fundamental grace to ask for in the Second Week of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises- to grow in a heartfelt knowledge of Jesus Christ so that we can love Him more deeply and follow Him more closely,” he recalls.
