Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) garnered three prestigious awards at the 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), capping off a stellar evening last November 14, 2018, at the Star Theater, Star City, CCP Complex, Pasay City.
For bagging Best Book in Homiletics at the 12th Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards, JesCom’s newest publication, “Weeded: Listening for God’s Word to a Messy World” was recognized, along with fellow winners, in a special segment for the CMMA’s sub-category.
Written by Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon T. Vilarin SJ, “Weeded”, draws inspiration from the author’s boyhood memories of gardening and alludes to the “Parable of the Weeds” in the Gospel- the image wherein he reflects on the question of hope in the world.
Continuing JesCom’s remarkable night was the instrumental flute and guitar meditation compilation, “Vespers 6: Sa Dapit-Hapon”, recipient of the Special Citation for Best Inspirational Album. The collection of instrumental songs, centering on one’s longing for God’s presence, is headlined by Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros SJ’s carrier single and Jay Gomez on flute.
Completing the impressive haul was JesCom’s Holy Week 2018 production “Sangandaan: Paghahanap kay Hesus sa Camino Ignaciano”, awardee of the Special Citation for Best TV Special .
Aired over ABS-CBN Channel 2, last Good Friday, March 30 2018, “Sangandaan”, now available on DVD, is an uplifting documentary that features a group of pilgrims’ spiritual journey, highlighted by their compelling personal stories of conversion, as they retrace the 157-km route that St.Ignatius of Loyola walked in 1522.
