6 September 2018
Dear Friends of the Archdiocese of Manila,
As part of our preparation for the 500th Year Anniversary of the Philippine Catholic Church in 2021, the Bishops of the Philippines have declared next year (2019) as the Year of the Youth. This perfectly complements the current focus of the Holy Father on the youth. Last March, for example, youth representatives from around the world gathered in Rome for an audience with the Pope and for consultations on the situation and challenges facing the youth today. This was to be an important preparation for the October Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which takes on the theme of “Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment.” These international activities for the Youth will finally culminate on the World Youth Day in January 2019 in Panama.
With all the focus on the Youth here and abroad, we have decided therefore to dedicate the PATRON OF THE ARTS 2018 to the Filipino Youth. Please join us as we pay tribute to our youth through music, dance, and other artistic performances. Produced by Jesuit Communications, the Benefit Concert will be held at the Meralco Theater in Pasig, at seven o’clock in the evening on the 12th of December, Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe, Patroness of the Philippines. The proceeds of the Concert will go to the Archdiocese of Manila Commission on the Youth which is involved in the gargantuan task of the formation of the young via campus ministry programs, parish youth ministry, and in the accompaniment of youth organizations and movements in the Archdiocese.
Please join us on this blessed night and in this blessed endeavor. Let us all lend our support to the Filipino youth.
Sincerely in Christ,
Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, DD, STD
Archbishop of Manila
